Taricha torosa var. torosa

This is a cute little booger.
There was one instance where my brother and I we hiking in the hills along the coast range of california. We came across a stock tank that the winter rains had busted down the earth dam and there was only a 30 or 40 feet pond in the middle but is was filled with thousands of these little things in some kind of a mating frenzy. You could reach in to the water and grab huge handfulls of these newts. The water had the consistancy of jello because all of the eggs. thousands of gallons of eggs. The woodstock of newts.

These are the red haverster ant mounds ( pogonomrymex barbatus) at my place.I have been encourging them for the last three years. they have three opening and cover about 3-4 thousand square feet. I am hoping they are bait to bring back the texas horned lizads ( Phrynosoma cornutum) we used have but were collateral damage in the war to control Imported Fire ants and were wiped out in the last 20 years.
